Hey everyone!

Date: July 7th

Location: Daryn’s Grandparents’ amazing property in Waccabuc, NY

First Dance: When I Fall in Love by Nat King and Natalie Cole

Special Requests: Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and Kids by MGMT

Daryn and Chris live in Athens, GA near Chris’s family, so when it came time to plan their wedding they enlisted the help of Daryn’s mom and grandparents. A good choice considering her grandparents have been producing Broadway hits for years!

Daryn’s grandparents’ beautiful home was the perfect setting for the wedding, just as it had been 11 years earlier for Daryn’s mother’s wedding to her stepfather, a day that was very important for Daryn to honor.

The tents were set up to the side of the main house, and behind the onsite amphitheater, yes amphitheater.

The attention to detail was obvious, because the table settings were a perfect mix of rustic and chic. The center pieces were accented with wildflowers that could’ve been plucked right off the surrounding property.

Daryn and Chris chose an eight piece band for their reception, which was a lot of fun for us! We love to get the full horn section out. To take advantage of the full rich sound of the trumpet and trombone we played a lot of Motown, swing and funk – Earth, Wind and Fire, of course!

Chris danced with his mom to one of my favorite early ’90s hits More Than Words by Extreme. Daryn and her dad cut a rug to the classic father/daughter tune I Loved Her First by Heartland (I swear that one gets me all teary every time!).

Daryn had a couple of specific song requests that we didn’t already know, and as always we were eager to learn some new tunes and customize our playlist to Daryn and Chris’s preferences. First, we learned Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. Daryn told Yves that the bridesmaids had had a great time jamming out to that tune at her bachelorette party, and they would love to hear it at the wedding. It was great! All the ladies were on the floor having a great time, we even got asked to play it again. I must say, I had a lot of fun with that one and it is now on the permanent song list! The other special request Daryn and Chris had was Kids by MGMT. This one also got the crowd up and moving and was a fun challenge for the band, since MGMT is a two man group that uses mostly computer based sound to make music. Our keyboard player had his hands full, but the horns joined in and Yves was able to somehow recreate the sound of three drum machines!! I love when our clients turn us on to new things we wouldn’t have thought to try. Of course, classic rock was a huge hit as well, and Chris’s Southern family and friends loved rocking out to Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks (another ’90s favorite of mine).

Daryn and Chris were a lot of fun and had a great dancing crowd at their wedding! Yves and I can’t wait to hear all about their Honeymoon in Turkey…
