First Dance: You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne

Jamie and Bill chose a beautiful and alternative spot for their wedding. The outdoor setting of Salt Air Farm on Long Island was a great backdrop which provided a lovely spot for their ceremony under a big old willow tree. We provided flute and acoustic guitar which was a wonderful complement to the pastoral milieu.

The musicians played classical pieces arranged for guitar and flute while the guests arrived and throughout the ceremony. One of Jamie’s requests was Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring a beautiful piece that is perfect for a wedding ceremony.

Jamie and Bill are both huge fans of classic rock so they opted for a rock trio of guitar, bass and drums for cocktails to play stripped down versions of all their favorites from The Grateful Dead, The Band, Paul Simon and more. Salt Air Farm provided lawn games to amuse the guests while appetizers were passed in the field.

Dinner took place under a large tent in the middle of the Farm’s giant lawn and was served family style at two long tables. A rustic detailed sign set the mood and marked the way into the reception tent. The dinner was casual and the mood was festive. There was plenty of dancing and people were able to roam the grounds between courses to mingle or check out the amazing flowers they grow on the farm.

For dessert Jamie and Bill served cupcakes and cookies from a buffet so that guests could serve themselves and have another chance to mingle and catch up with friends and family. Meanwhile music kept going in the main tent so people could dance. We played a mix of music to get the crowd going, but focused a lot on classic rock since it’s the bride and groom’s favorite genre.

Jamie and Bill are a fun loving and gracious couple. They wanted their wedding to be a laid-back yet elegant affair, so they put together a beautiful, casual and spirited event in a luxuriously pastoral setting. We had a wonderful time playing for them and their guests!
