Spring Has Sprung!

Happy Spring Everyone,

When we last checked in with you all, we were getting set to rock Valentine’s Day at Seasons at Windham Mountain, and that we did. It was one of the best (if not coldest) ski weekends of the season and the folks at Seasons were up and dancing with us to help warm up after a chilly afternoon on the slopes! Our favorite newly-engaged guitar-god, JT Curtis filled in for Danny and rocked the house while showing his beautiful fiancé the love! Hey JT, we know an awesome band for your wedding 😉

IMG_8943

That was quite a move, and he still nailed the solo!

We kicked off the year on January 16th when we hit the road to play for Natasha and Brian’s Wedding in Washington DC at The Capitol View at 400. We first met Natasha a few years back when we played for her mom’s 50th bash in Maryland. We all had so much fun with these folks, we were super psyched to rock out with them again in our nation’s capital. Natasha is an amazing professional dancer and aerialist and really showed off her skills during the couple’s first dance, You’re The Cream in My Coffee.

It was an awesome way to kick off 2016!

On New Year’s Eve we got a chance to party with our friends at The Wolfert’s Roost Country Club in Albany, NY – wow, we really get around! Amy, kicked off the festivities that night by flexing her solo acoustic guitar and vocal muscles during the cocktail hour before she joined the full band for dancing in the ball room!

Happy New Year!

In March we all took some time off before donning our masks for this year’s annual GCCA Beaux Arts Ball on April 2nd,which honored our friend and colleague Frank Cuthbert for his contributions to supporting local art and artists. Frank is a wonderfully talented composer and performer. We had the privilege of performing a piece from Frank’s musical Coney Island entitled Great Kissers in New York, and later in the evening we surprised Frank and called him up on stage to sing one of our favorites of his songs, Nervous. We have such a great time at this event each year and this year was no exception. We feel honored to contribute to this very worthy cause in our small way and truly respect the people who work tirelessly to make sure that the arts are supported in our community. Thank you to Kay Stamer and David and Jean Slutsky for allowing us to be a part of this event year after year and to Frank for rocking with us!

On April 4th, Yves and the guys provided a jazz trio for the Stanley M. Isaacs Center Gala at The Racquet and Tennis Club on Park Avenue in NYC. Yves delighted the crowd with his cocktail-hour crooning while Bennett tickled the ivories for the guests as they mingled and perused the silent auction items before heading into the main ballroom for dinner and a live auction to benefit the center.

Gala-goers anxiously await the live auction portion of the evening.

Summer Recap Time!!

Well, the holidays are fast approaching and so we figured this would be a good time for a recap of this summer’s parties and happenings. We’ve been so busy this year we’ve barely had time to stay in touch with you all, but if you’ve been following us on Instagram you’re ahead of the game. Here are some of our favorite pics from the grooviest parties of the summer (yes, we’re bringing back groovy – pass it on).

First Dance: All I Want Is You by Tristan Prettyman

B and L Cake1

Bianca and Lycean are two busy ER docs in the midst of their residency, so when they asked us to play for their wedding on a Thursday night we were more than happy to accommodate them. Their schedules keep them occupied all weekend long, but hey – we’ll rock out any day of the week, any time of day! The couple chose a band/DJ combo package to suit their very eclectic taste, which is something we’ve been doing a lot more of lately. It’s a lot of fun for us, we get to dance too. We even learned some new moves!

Bianca and Lyncean chose Tristan Prettyman’s version of the Barry Louis Polisar song, All I Want Is You (the song that was made popular by the movie Juno). It’s a song that is as sweet as the couple themselves.

The room was decked out in origami details from the center pieces to the cake decor. A really nice touch that someone must have spent hours on.

Hey everyone!

I know it’s been a while since we last posted, but we have had a crazy busy couple of months. We rocked some pretty awesome events in May and June in addition to starting the planning process with Nite-Time’s Class of 2016. We figured you all might want to see what we’ve been up to, so here are some photo highlights of our spring season…

We were honored to return (for the eighth year) to perform for the amazing folks at the Princeton Child Development Institute. They do such wonderful work with children and adults living with autism and they do a terrific job organizing this event each year.

This marked the third year in a row that the good people at the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center asked us to perform for their Spring Gala and one of the few times of the year that Amy and Bennett get to perform as a duo before the full band gets rockin’. Always fun!

Of course, no spring would be complete without our Columbia College Reunion Weekend revelers jamming to tunes from every decade on the plaza outside the iconic Low Library in the heart of NYC! We probably say this every year, but this year seemed to bring out more alumni than ever before.

Amy and Yves got to rock it duo style at the Wolfert’s Roost CC’s Belmont Stakes party on June 6th. We’re not saying the acoustic good vibes we sent out had anything to do with American Pharoah’s historic triple crown win, but you never know 😉

Just three days before the end of spring on June 18th, wedding season kicked in for us again with Bianca and Lyncean’s NYC nuptials. These two ER docs are so busy they had to schedule their wedding for a Thursday night. It’s all good, we’ll rock a party any day of the week. More to come on that one…

Best Reunion Highlight: 30th Anniversary Ghostbuster in Full Costume, Sweet!

I know, I know we say it every year, but really, this year was off the hook at Columbia! We’ve just had the best time playing for the alumni over the years. This year was a celebration of class years ending in four and nine, which made it the 30th anniversary of arguably the best movie ever shot on campus, Ghostbusters (I’m not sure what other movies have been shot on campus though).

We got some great pics sent to us from Scott Rudd, an amazing photographer and musician who was on the scene to capture the event. We just thought we’d share them with all of you…

We also got to hang with as close to a real Ghostbuster as possible. I’m not sure he was sanctioned by the University, and he may have been run off campus shortly after this shot was taken, but we had a great time anyway!

Lia and Robert rocked their first dance!

Lia and Robert found us online while shopping for their NYC wedding from far off Australia where the couple lives and works. A truly international couple, Lia was born in Korea and raised in Manhattan, while Robert hails from the city of Preston in the UK. The couple met in Thailand and have travelled the world together. When we first started planning with them they had just gotten back from hiking in the Philippines! All of Lia and Robert’s travels made for a super sweet and fun way of planning the seating arrangements.

IMG_4387

Coolest seating chart ever.

Each table was named for a significant city in the couple’s relationship, lives and travels. This map was posted at the entrance to the reception space so people could find their city and see who they would be sitting with. It was a lot of fun and we all got to learn a little something more about Lia and Robert that we might not have known.

The ceremony took place right outside the boathouse on the pond in Prospect Park. It’s a beautiful setting. The bride entered to a solo guitar version of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. One of the bridesmaids shared a reading from a Walt Whitman poem.

LiaRobert3

Beautiful outdoor ceremony setting.

Lia and Robert’s wedding was small and intimate, making it a perfect fit for the boathouse in Prospect Park. They chose a slightly smaller version of Nite-Time. We had four pieces to complement not only the size of the space and number of guests, but the couple’s laid back style. We stayed with mostly background music through dinner and then ramped it up after everyone had finished eating and all of the speeches had been made. There was also a slideshow presentation that Lia and Robert’s families had put together set to a song written by Lia’s cousin.

We had a blast at this wedding and felt so honored to be included in Lia and Robert’s big day, right down to our own city/table!

Thank you so much guys and I hope you had an awesome time in Machu Picchu.

Michelle and Mike saw us at Jamie and Bill’s wedding out at Salt Air Farm in 2012 and like Jamie and Bill they are huge classic rock fans. They love Pearl Jam and chose songs by the band both to start and to end their night. It was a lot of fun getting to really rock out and Yves did a great job channeling his inner Eddie Vedder!

For the cocktail hour, which was jammed packed with every imaginable kind of food and drink, Danny played solo guitar versions of rock classics while the guests mingled and munched.

Next the party moved into the main ballroom. We brought in the couple’s parents with the Hall and Oates classic You Make my Dreams Come True and we announced the bridal party with Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough. Michelle and Mike entered to Signed,  Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder, but they chose the Pearl Jam ballad Future Days for their first dance. The song is heartfelt and beautiful, a perfect choice for a first dance.

M&M5

We had a great time playing Michelle and Mike’s special requests which included Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins, Free by Zac Brown Band and Run Around by Blues Traveller. Michelle danced with her dad to Billy Preston’s You Are So Beautiful to Me. She specifically asked that we sing the second verse, which is often left out and is not in the popular version by Joe Cocker. It was a very sweet moment. Mike chose My Wish by Rascal Flatts as his dance with his mom, which always gets folks choked up.

For the last dance of the night the couple requested that we play Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam, a song that I honestly never knew had real words 🙂 Yves did a great job singing them though, whatever they are! Of course, all of Michelle and Mike’s friends got out on the floor and made it one of those awesome moments that we love, when everyone comes together.

We had a lot of fun with Michelle and Mike’s musical selections and their fun loving dancing crowd. Here are some more fun pics from the night…

The Cause: Princeton Child Development Institute

We’ve had the honor of working with PCDI on their Spring Sensations Gala for the past seven years, and we couldn’t be more happy to play a small part in raising money for this great cause. The Princeton Child Development Institute “provides quality treatment, education and professional training and mentoring” and through its research has “pioneered comprehensive intervention models that are used nationally and internationally for the benefit of persons with autism”.

This year’s Spring Sensations Gala’s theme was “Springtime in the City” the room was decked out with flowers, lampposts and park benches to give the feel of an urban park setting blossoming with the renewal that comes each spring.

This year Nite-Time had the honor of performing for the second consecutive year at the Glitter and Glamour Gala to benefit the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood center which “in working with the poor, the isolated and disconnected of all ages, genders, backgrounds and abilities, promotes social and physical well-being and encourages growth, self-reliance and dignity throughout every stage of life.” It is a great organization that does so much to help so many, so we are happy to give something back in our small way.

This year’s honorees were the New York Junior League and Manhattan Borough President, Gale A. Brewer. The New York Junior League is one of the oldest and largest women’s nonprofit volunteer organizations in New York City and Gale A. Brewer has successfully passed legislation guaranteeing paid sick leave for hourly employees and compelling landlords to fix repeat violations as well as the nation’s first law protecting domestic workers.

The event was stunningly designed by Ned Kelly and beautifully set in the historic University Club on West 54th Street. We began the evening with some lighter tunes by the baby grand piano as guests arrived and enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while checking out the amazing items up for bid at the silent auction.

Amy sets the mood with some sweet melodies.

We transitioned into the main ballroom with the full band playing some slightly more upbeat music to signal that the party was ramping up. Next the emcee for the evening, Sara Haines of ABC News, stepped up to the mic and kicked off the evening’s award presentations.

Once the awards were presented and dinner was complete, we got back on stage to entertain the people that give of themselves for this great cause all year. It felt good. Everybody got up to shake their cares away for a while and we had a great time too!

Thanks for having us back and we hope to see you next year. Keep up the great work.
